Dovre Region

Dovre Region is a traditional district of Norway consisting of the municipalities of Dovre, Folldal, and Oppdal. The Dovrefjell mountains cover this area that borders several counties. The mountains are traditionally considered to be the border of Central Norway and Southern Norway.
This particular district in Norway is atypical in several respects: while most districts in Norway are bounded by geographical barriers such as fjords and mountain ranges, the Dovre region comprises the rural alpine communities that straddle the different sides of the Dovrefjell mountain range.
Formal cooperation among the three municipalities is fairly recent, but there is ample evidence that the populations had much communication going back to prehistoric times.
