Dhawee Umponmaha


Dhawee Umponmaha or known in ring name as Kaopong Sitichuchai a Thai boxer. At the 1984 Summer Olympics he won a silver medal in the men's Light Welterweight category. He was the second Thai athlete to win a medal at the Summer Olympics, following Payao Poontarat at the 1976 Summer Olympics. In addition, he is also a Muay Thai kickboxer.
He is the third of six children of his parents. He started fighting at the age of 14 in his native with Chucheep Chaimongkol as a trainer. Later, he traveled to Bangkok for fight at the standard stadiums, Rajadamnern Stadium and Lumpinee Stadium in 1974. He won Featherweight title of the Lumpinee Stadium and it has been four years without anyone winning. Until he had to vacate for move up to a heavier division. He also used to beat the legendary Dieselnoi Chor Thanasukarn.
He then turned to the amateur of Capt. Chanai Pongsupa's persuasion in 1981 under Osotspa Club. By his first reason was that he wanted to travel abroad. He has achieved many championships such as two times Thailand Championships in 1983 and 1984, silver medal in the 1982 Asian Games, silver medal in the 1982 King's Cup and gold medal in the 1983 Southeast Asian Games etc.
After retirement, he worked as a public relations officer at Osotspa and as a secretary of Osotspa F.C. in Thai Premier League. And has his own cosmetic business.
