The Dhai Ghar Khatris originally consisted of three family groups of North India – Kapoor, Khanna and Malhotra.

The Khatris were divided into sub-castes. The dhai ghar grouping, comprising families carrying the surnames of Malhotra, Khanna and Kapoor.
