Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2012

On 15 May 2011, one day after the 2011 Contest had been held in Germany, DR announced its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2012 was held on 21 January 2012 in the Gigantium arena in Aalborg, which previously also hosted the 2006 and 2010 shows.

Competing entries

Potential entries could be submitted until 26 September 2011 at noon. A total of 678 songs were submitted to DR. According to the rules of the competition, 9-10 songs would be selected to compete in the final; 6 songs selected in open competition among the entries submitted and 3-4 wildcard entries invited on the basis of editorial considerations. The line-up of 10 acts was announced on 5 January 2012. However, one of the selected finalist songs was disqualified after it was released before the date allowed by the European Broadcasting Union and thus breaking the rules. The song was not replaced.
