Delhi–Meerut–Saharanpur line


The Old DelhiMeerutSaharanpur line is a railway line connecting Old Delhi and Saharanpur. This page includes the Meerut - Khurja link. The line is under the administrative jurisdiction of Northern Railway.

History

The railway line between Old Delhi and Meerut was constructed in 1864.
The Sind, Punjab and Delhi railway completed the AmritsarAmbala - Saharanpur – Ghaziabad line in 1870 connecting Multan with Delhi.

Infrastructure works

Electrification

As of 12-03-2016, the Khurja - Meerut - Saharanpur line including the Ghaziabad - Meerut - Saharanpur sector are electrified. Trains can now seamlessly run with electric locomotives from Delhi to Haridwar and Delhi to Ambala via Meerut and Saharanpur.

Double Line

The Meerut City - Saharanpur section of the track was previously single-line. Meerut - Muzaffarnagar section is double track. Doubling of the Muzaffarnagar - Tapri section is on full swing.

Loco shed

electric loco shed serves the Delhi area. It housed 47 WAP-1 locos in 2008. It also has WAM-4, WAP-4, WAP-5, WAP-7 and WAG-5HA locos.
