Delfin Lorenzana


Maj. Gen. Delfin Negrillo Lorenzana, AFP is the 36th Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines.

History

Lorenzana graduated from the Philippine Military Academy's "Maagap" class of 1973. A Special Operations Command, Presidential Security Group and Light Armored Brigade Commander, as well as served in staff positions at Battalion and Brigade Headquarters, Army Headquarters and General Headquarters. He was also Defense and Armed Forces Attaché from 2002 to 2004 and helped develop ties of the United States and the Philippines in the lines of defense and cooperation in the Balikatan exercises. He earned his post-graduate degree of Master of Business Administration, major in Operations Research, from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. He also finished a number of courses and training both in the Philippines and abroad, including strategic studies at the Australia University in Canberra, a seminar for Senior International Leaders at Harvard University, and crisis management course at the US Department of State.
He was appointed chief administrator of martial law upon the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
He also ordered the review of the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty on 28 December 2018 with “to maintain it, strengthen it, or scrap it” as the end goal. He's also open to the review of the National Defense Act of 1935.
