Deir Jmal
Deir Jmal is a town in northern Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria. Located north of Aleppo, it is administratively part of Nahiya Tell Rifaat in A'zaz District. Nearby localities include Tell Rifaat and Mare' to the east, A'zaz to the north, Mayer and al-Zahraa to the south. In the 2004 census, Deir Jamal had a population of 4,287.During the Syrian Civil War the town was objective of several battles. After the rebels took over the town in 2012 it was captured by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in January 2014. In the summer, the Kurdish group Jabhat al-Akrad took the town but lost it in late 2015 to the rebels.
On the 8 February 2016, the Syrian Democratic Forces captured Deir Jamal. On 12 March 2018, it was handed over to the Syrian Army.
