Daya Shankar Kulshreshtha

Daya Shankar Kulshreshtha is an Indian theoretical physicist, specializing in formal aspects of quantum field theory, string theory and general relativity. Dirac's instant-form and light-front quantization of field theories and D-brane actions, boson stars, black holes and wormholes in general relativity.

Education and career

Kulshreshtha obtained B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He received his Ph.D. in 1979 from the University of Delhi, under the supervision of R. P. Saxena. Following an appointment as lecturer in physics at Rajdhani College of the University of Delhi in 1977, Kulshreshtha worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kaiserslautern. He then held a five-year position of a UGC-Research Scientist of the University Grants Commission of India at the University of Delhi followed by a five year position at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany before being appointed a professor at the University of Delhi in 1994. Kulshreshtha remained a professor at the University of Delhi until 2016, serving as Head of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics during 2007–2010. Since 2011 he was several times visiting faculty in the Nuclear Physics Theory Group at Iowa State University and at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.

Research

Kulshreshtha's research focuses on formal aspects of quantum field theory, string theory and general relativity. In particular, he studies the canonical structure, constrained dynamics and instant-form and light-front quantization of field theory, string theory and D-brane actions using the Hamiltonian and path integral formulation as well as the BRST quantization. He is a member of the International Light Cone Advisory Committee. He helped organize the 2012 International Conference on Light-Cone Physics at the University of Delhi. He also studies boson stars, boson shells, black holes and wormholes in general relativity, work which was profiled by the American Physical Society's PhysicsCentral site.,
Kulshreshtha has written over 70 scientific articles, which have received over 500 citations.
