Daniel Scholten


Daniel Scholten is a Germano-Icelandic writer, specialising in Scandinavian languages as well as ancient languages. He has published numerous works and brings his expertise knowledge as a well versed linguist in his video-podcast series Belles Lettres, in which he mostly explains advanced topics in German and linguistics in general to a broad German-speaking audience. Scholten is based in München and Stockholm.

Background

Upon graduating from school and completing an apprenticeship, Scholten worked in Scandinavia for several years as a typographer. After this, Scholten studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in München, with majors in Egyptology and historical linguistics, specialising in the language and literature of ancient Egypt.
Beyond this, Scholten has also been heavily involved with Scandinavian literature and published two Literature journals.
In 2007, Scholten began writing crime novels under the title Kommissar Cederström.
Scholten is also widely known amongst German-speakers for his video-podcast series Belles Lettres, which he founded independently on 1 January 2010. The podcasts revolve around relatively advanced themes from linguistics as well as stylistics. The purpose of the podcasts, is to enable the subscribers to develop their ability to make informed judgements about diverse elements of the German language.
Scholte has lived since 2012 in Stockholm and Munich.
