Daan Roosegaarde


Daan Roosegaarde is a Dutch artist and founder of Studio Roosegaarde, which develops projects that merge technology and art in urban environments.

Early life and education

Roosegaarde was born in 1979 in Nieuwkoop in the Netherlands. He studied at the Institute for the Arts in Arnhem, the Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede, and the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. He founded Studio Roosegaarde in 2007 in the Netherlands and later opened a "pop-up" studio in Shanghai, China.

Design works and projects

Roosegaarde's projects often employ light and sensing technology in an interactive manner.
The work from his Studio Roosegaarde has been exhibited at the Rijksmuseum, Tate Modern, Tokyo National Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Design Museum in London. Roosegaarde won the London Design Innovation medal in 2016.
