Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010


Croatia selected its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest through the Dora contest, which was held on 5 and 6 March 2010, organised by the Croatian national broadcaster Hrvatska radiotelevizija. The winner of Dora was the girl group Feminnem with "Lako je sve".
Feminnem had previously represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Call Me", and placed 14th in the final.

Before Eurovision

Dora 2010

Dora 2010 was the eighteenth edition of the Croatian national selection Dora, which selected Croatia's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010.

Format

The format of the competition includes a semi-final on 5 March 2010 and a final on 6 March 2010. 16 songs were selected from a public submission period to compete in the semi-final. The top eight songs, as determined by a public televote, qualified to the final which were joined by 8 songs written by composers invited by HRT for the competition, which qualified directly for the final. In the final, the 50/50 combination of points from a public televote and an expert jury determined the winner.

Competing entries

Artists and composers were able to submit their entries to the broadcaster until 15 December 2009. 200 entries were received by the broadcaster during the submission period. An expert committee selected sixteen artists and songs for the competition from the received submissions. Fifteen of the semi-finalists were announced on 29 December 2009, with the full list of competing artists being announced on 8 January 2010. Two preview shows of the semi-final songs, Ususret dori, were broadcast by HRT on 11 and 12 February 2010.

Semi-final

The semi-final took place on 5 March 2010 at the Hotel Kvarner in Opatija, hosted by Nevena Rendeli, Mila Horvat, Mirko Fodor and Duško Ćurlić. The sixteen entries selected from the public submissions participated and eight advanced to the final. The qualifiers were determined exclusively by a public televote, with the winner being Doris Teur.

Final

The final, broadcast on HRT1 and online over the EBU's official web stream , took place on 6 March 2010 at the Hotel Kvarner in Opatija, hosted by Nevena Rendeli, Mila Horvat, Mirko Fodor and Duško Ćurlić. The eight entries that qualified from the preceding semi-final and the eight pre-qualified entries written by the invited composers participated and the winner, "Lako je sve" performed by Feminnem, was determined by a 50/50 combination of points awarded by an expert jury and from the public televote.
1994 Croatian entrant Tony Cetinski was the guest act, who performed a number of his hits.

Before Eurovision

On 20 March, HRT1 aired the official music video of "Lako je sve" for the first time, with other Croatian TV channels allowed to broadcast the video the next day. The video was directed by Croatian director Gonzo, and the outfits worn by Feminnem were designed by Gordana Zucić.
In April 2010 Feminnem released Russian, Italian and English language versions of "Lako je sve" - "Легко всë - Ljehko vsjo", "Semplice" and "Easy to See".

At Eurovision

Croatia competed in the second semi-final of the contest, on 27 May. They failed to be amongst the ten qualifiers to the final on 29 May, despite being one of the pre-contest favourites.
