Conway High School (South Carolina)


Conway High School is a public school located in Conway, South Carolina at 2301 Church Street. It is one of nine high schools in the Horry County School District. As of 2016-17, the school's enrollment was 1,611. The school colors are forest green and gold, and its athletic teams are known as the "Tigers."

History

In 1968, Conway High School and Whittemore High School merged following desegregation. In the early years Conway High's colors were green and white, and many years later their colors changed to green, white and orange, while Whittemore's were purple and gold. The two schools elected to make the new colors of present-day Conway High School green white and gold, and also to keep the "Tiger" as the school's mascot. The school has since had notable academic achievements such as the Palmetto Gold and Silver award. also the National Renaissance program was started at Conway in the early '80s. The school is also rated "Excellent" on the state report card.
Over the years the Conway High football team had major rivalries with Myrtle Beach High School, Georgetown High School, Socastee High School, Carolina Forest High School and Marlboro County High School.
