Columbia Transportation

Columbia Transportation is a bus network providing service to Columbia University campuses. It is operated by Academy Bus Lines and Luxury Transportation Corp to serve employees and as many as 30,000 students per year.

Fleet

The fleet is comprised mainly of New Flyer Industries, Van Hool, and Nova Bus buses. Originally, the fleet was operated exclusiveley with 2007 Nova Bus LFS TL40102A buses, Nos. 2114-2118. In 2018, Columbia bought six New Flyer Industries XE40 Xcelsior CHARGE buses, Nos. 2991-2996. These buses are used on all Intercampus Lines, the Fort Lee Shuttle, and the Lamont Shuttle. After all six XE40s were delivered, the 2007 Novas were relegated to backup service at Academy's Hoboken Garage. The other three shuttles were launched at separate times, and use different fleets. The Manhattanville Shuttle was launched with a single 2017 Nova Bus LFS TL40102A bus, No. 2143, pulled from backup Academy service. The Bakers Field Shuttle was launched with 5 2013-14 Van Hool C2045 buses, Nos. 6405-6410, pulled from Academy charter service. These buses are still in the Academy paint scheme. When the Arbor Shuttle was launched, it used an unknown cutaway van, but in 2019, that was replaced by a 2019 Ford E-450 cutaway bus, No. 425. The Arbor Shuttle is operated by Columbia Facilities, and has been contracted out to Luxury Transportation Corp. of Queens.

Routes

Several routes operate within the network. In 2020, a pilot program with shuttle service to Hoboken, New Jersey using the Manhattanville Shuttle buses was initiated. It stopped in April 2020, when the Manhattanville Shuttle stopped running due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
