Cloudian


Cloudian, Inc. is a US enterprise data storage company headquartered in San Mateo, California, with offices in Europe and Asia. It produces Amazon S3-compatible object storage software, scale-out file services software, and pre-configured hardware appliances.

History

Cloudian was launched in 2011 by CEO Michael Tso and President Hiroshi Ohta. In 2012, Cloudian signed a deal with Japanese telecommunications company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone to power its Biz Hosting Cloud Object Storage service.
Since then, other Cloudian customers include Motorola, WGBH, T-Mobile, Element Fleet, Pirelli, @nifty, Casale, Tyco, and Nextel.
In 2014, Cloudian raised $24 million from investors including INCJ, Fidelity Growth Partners Japan, Intel Capital, and Goldman Sachs. Cloudian raised an additional $41 million in October 2016 from both existing investors and four new investors: Lenovo, City National Bank, Epsilon Venture Partners, and DVP Investment. Cloudian raised $25 million in February 2018, and gained a commitment of $100 million for consumption model financing, from a new investor: Digital Alpha Advisors.
Cloudian announced a partnership with Lenovo in June 2016 to sell an appliance in Lenovo's StorSelect line: the DX8200C powered by Cloudian. In August 2016, Cloudian's HyperStore software was made available via the Amazon Web Services Marketplace.

Products

Cloudian HyperStore Object Storage

Cloudian's HyperStore Operating Environment software provides enterprise object storage. The software has native Amazon S3 support, and data can be tiered to Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, or S3 endpoints such as tape libraries.
HyperStore supports logical storage policies that can be configured with replication or erasure coding. Other features include multi-tenancy and Quality of Service options to set control permissions and usage rate limits and using Hadoop for analytics.
In April 2016, Cloudian released HyperStore 6.0, which added built-in storage analytics, object GPS, and proactive repair.
The HyperStore software is available as a hybrid cloud storage service via AWS Marketplace, with usage details and billing coming directly from AWS.

HyperStore 4000 Object Storage Appliance

The HyperStore 4000 appliance has two compute nodes in a 4U enclosure. The appliance has 256GB of memory, and can hold disk drives up to 12TB, for a maximum raw capacity of 840TB.

HyperStore 1500 Object Storage Appliance

The HyperStore 1500 is a 1U storage appliance that can hold up to twelve 3.5" hard drives and four hot swappable 2.5" SSDs. The 1500 can store from 48TB to 144TB of data.

HyperFile Scale-out File Services Appliance

The HyperFile is a 2U storage appliance that provides file services, employing Cloudian HyperStore as the storage environment. HyperFile supports SMB, NFS and FTP protocols supported,

Lenovo DX8200C Powered by Cloudian

The Lenovo DX8200C Powered by Cloudian consists of Cloudian HyperStore software on Lenovo hardware. The appliance size is 2U and starts with three nodes, with each node supporting up to 112 TB of internal storage.
Lenovo will provide tier 1 and tier 2 support for the product, with tier 3 support escalated to Cloudian.
