Cleveland Ballet (founded 2014)

The Cleveland Ballet was founded in Cleveland in 2014 by Michael Krasnyansky and his wife, Gladisa Guadalupe. It is the third incarnation of the Cleveland Ballet, having been preceded by ballet companies of the same name founded in 1935 and in 1972. Guadalupe, a Puerto Rico native, and principal dancer and teacher with the 1972-2000 Cleveland Ballet, and Krasnyansky, a Russian-American businessman who immigrated from the Soviet Union, founded the new Cleveland Ballet with their own capital and other donations. Its initial production in 2015, titled Past. Present. Future was presented to a nearly sold-out audience. The new Cleveland Ballet became a resident company of Playhouse Square in 2017. The company has 29 dancers and apprentices, and performs at Playhouse Square.
