Claudia Emmanuela Santoso is an Indonesian singer. She is known as winning the ninth season of The Voice of Germany and become the first Asian who won the title, broadcast by the German television channels ProSieben and Sat.1 in 2019. She started gaining wide public attention after performing her rendition of The Greatest Showman soundtrack "" in the blind audition The Voice of Germany. The footage of her blind audition has been one of the most viewed videos in The Voice of Germany history. Before joining The Voice of Germany, she also took part in many children's singing competitions in Indonesia such as Akademi Fantasi Indosiar Junior in 2008, Idola Cilik in 2011 and Mamamia Show in 2014.
Life and career
Claudia attended music school since the age of 4. At that time Claudia's parents saw her talent in music. Claudia's talent is evident from her habit before going to sleep, which is singing or listening to music. Claudia began participating in the talent search event in Indonesia by joining AFI Junior in 2008, Idola Cilik in 2011 and Mamamia Show in 2014. Claudia‘s maternal uncle encouraged her to pursue her higher education in Germany, he took the initiative to support her by sending her to a German language course at the Goethe - Institute Indonesia in Bandung up to the A1 level. During her semester holiday, she was admitted to Inlingua Sprachkurs in Munich taking intensive A2 level courses. After she graduated from high school in 2018, she left Indonesia and her family to pursue higher education in the University of Munich in Germany. Her uncle and her aunts helped her to settle down there. This is where Claudia's dream came true, starting with the talent search for The Voice of Germany 2019. Claudia first auditioned for The Voice of Germany in the city of Munich in February 2019. In this contest, Claudia competed with approximately 2,000 participants from various origins. Then, in March 2019 Claudia received the news that she had passed the first stage and she could continue to the next stage held in Berlin until finally Claudia passed again to the next stage, the Blind Audition stage. In the Blind Audition stage, Claudia performed the song "Never Enough" from the soundtrack of the film The Greatest Showman. Claudia's appearance in singing this song caught the attention of the judges of The Voice of Germany and many people on social media. The video of her Blind Audition performance became one of the most watched videos in The Voice of Germany history. Claudia appeared consistent and very riveting throughout The Voice of Germany. By the time of the final stage, Claudia had performed 3 songs, namely "Castles", "I Have Nothing" and "Goodbye". With the acquisition of 46.39% of the popular vote, Claudia was declared the winner of The Voice of Germany season 9 and was the first Asian to win the event. On the final of The Voice of Germany, Claudia sang her first single titled "Goodbye" duet with her coach Alice Merton. Since the release of the song "Goodbye" on November 10, 2019, the single has made it to the charts on iTunes Indonesia and several European countries.
