Claudia Amura


Claudia Noemí Amura is an Argentinian chess player, Woman Grand Master and national champion. Her husband is GM Gilberto Hernández.
Amura learned how to play chess when she was seven years old. At the age of 13 she won the youth Argentine championship against mostly boys.
She was the first Iberoamerican Woman Grand Master and rose to the 12th place in the FIDE women ranking.
She won five times the Women Argentine Championship.
Amura played in the Olympiad eight times. On Novi Sad 1990 she won a silver medal on first board.
She won the Panamerican championship of Venezuela 1997 and five South American championships.
When playing against men, she won the Grand Prix Open 1990 in Buenos Aires and the Metropolitan championship 1992 in Buenos Aires.
She also played in three Argentine Championships.
She wrote chess columns in Argentine newspapers: La Nación, Página/12 and El Liberal.
