In 2016, Thomson Reuters struck a $3.55 billion deal in which they spun it off into an independent company, and sold it to private-equity firms Onex Corporation and Baring Private Equity Asia. In May 13, 2019, Clarivate merged with Churchill Capital. Churchill's CEO, Jerre Stead became Clarivate's executive chairman.. On 29th July 2020,it started the process of Merging with CPA Global Ltd.

Highly Cited Researchers
Clarivate publishes an annual Highly Cited Researchers list. The list recognizes "the world's most influential researchers of the past decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science." Researchers are selected for their exceptional performance in one or more of 21 fields or across several fields. The 2019 list of Highly Cited Researchers was released on November 19, 2019.
Each year since 2002, Institute for Scientific Information analysts have drawn on Web of Science publication and citation data to identify influential researchers in the research areas recognized by Nobel Prizes: Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry and Economics. Out of some 47 million papers indexed in the Web of Science since 1970, only 4,900 have been cited 2,000 or more times. It is from the authors of this group of papers that Citation Laureates are identified and selected. The 2019 Citation Laureates were named on September 24, 2019.

Clarivate publishes the annual Journal Citation Reports, which identifies the world's most impactful academic journals included in the Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, part of the Web of Science Core Collection.
