Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police


The Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is an independent Canadian government agency responsible for examining complaints of improper on-duty conduct by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The CRCC was established in 2013 as part of the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act, which amended the existing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act to enhance accountability mechanisms within the RCMP. The CRCC was previously known as the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, which was established in 1988.
The current Chairperson of the CRCC is Michelaine Lahaie. She was appointed to that position on January 2, 2019.

Overview

Anyone, including a non-citizen, who has a concern about the on-duty conduct of an RCMP member can make a complaint. You do not have to be directly involved in the incident; you can make a complaint on behalf of someone else, or as a witness to an incident.
When a member of the public contacts the CRCC, they are provided with same-day access to an experienced analyst who then assesses the needs of that person and identifies possible options for a way forward to addressing their concerns. These options include:
