Chyrstyn Fentroy


Chyrstyn Mariah Fentroy is an American ballet dancer. She currently dances as a soloist with the Boston Ballet and is a former principal dancer at Dance Theatre of Harlem. When Fentroy joined Boston Ballet in 2017, she was the first African-American female dancer to join the company in a decade.

Biography

Fentroy grew up in Los Angeles, California. Both of her parents had been professional dancers. Her mother is white and her father is black. She began her ballet training under her mother, Ruth Fentroy.
She moved to New York City when she was 17 years old and trained as a scholarship student at Joffrey Ballet. Upon graduating, she joined Dance Theatre of Harlem, later becoming a principal dancer. In 2017 she joined the Boston Ballet, becoming the first African-American female dancer in the company in a decade. She was promoted to second soloist in 2018.
She was awarded the Princess Grace Honoraria Award in Dance in 2016.
