Chrysomelinae


The Chrysomelinae are a subfamily of leaf beetles. Some 2000 species are found, with worldwide distribution. The best-known member is the notorious Colorado potato beetle, an important agricultural pest.

Behaviour

Some species of Chrysomelidae express high levels of maternal care for insects. Not only do they locate food-rich environments for their eggs, they protect both the eggs and the larvae after hatching.
