China–Gambia relations


In August 2017, China offered The Gambia support in infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and other areas. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Gambian counterpart, after the nation ditched ties with self-ruled Taiwan.
In July 2019, China’s ambassador to The Gambia has told the Gambian government his country will invest further in the West African country’s fisheries sector, despite growing protests against a Chinese-backed fishmeal plant.

Human Rights

In June 2020, The Gambia was one of 53 countries backed the Hong Kong national security law at the United Nations.
