Charli D'Amelio is an American social media personality and dancer. She uploaded her first dance videos in summer of 2019 and became TikTok's most-followed account on March 25, 2020, after passing Loren Gray. Her TikTok account as of July 2020 has over 75 million followers.

Career

D'Amelio's career began on TikTok in the summer of 2019, uploading dance videos to trending songs on the platform. Her first TikTok was a lip-syncing video with her friend. She now has over 75 million TikTok followers, 25.1 million Instagram followers, 6.04 million YouTube subscribers, and 3.5 million Twitter followers. She became the most-followed account on TikTok, surpassing previous most-followed individual, Loren Gray, on March 25, 2020.
In 2019, former Sony Music executive Barbara Jones signed D’Amelio to her management company, Outshine Talent. In January 2020, D'Amelio signed with talent agency UTA. She appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Sabra Hummus along with other celebrities. She was invited to attend Super Bowl LIV and meet Jennifer Lopez to create the TikTok challenge "J Lo Super Bowl Challenge." In January 2020, D'Amelio was labeled TikTok's "reigning queen" by the New York Times.
She was part of the collaborative TikTok content house known as the “Hype House” along with 18 others including her sister, Dixie D'Amelio. In May 2020, a representative for the D'Amelios confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she and her sister had left the Hype House after it had become more of a business rather than something fun.
She performed a dance at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, performing with fellow Hype House members and creator of the "Renegade" dance, Jalaiah Harmon. On March 27, 2020, D'Amelio collaborated on YouTube with actor Noah Schnapp. In May 2020, she and her sister announced a new podcast deal with Ramble Podcast Network, which will offer a behind-the-scenes look at their lives and specific topics on their minds. In May of 2020 Hollywood Reporter called her TikTok's "biggest star".
On June 17, 2020, she created an alter ego on TikTok by the name of Barley D'Amelio, where she posts less-professional content. The account has amassed over 4.5 million followers, with the handle @barleydamelio123454321.

Personal life

Her immediate family includes politician father, Marc D'Amelio, her mother, Heidi D'Amelio, and her sister, Dixie D’Amelio.
D'Amelio dated fellow TikTok star Chase Hudson, in which they confirmed their relationship in January of 2020. On April 14 of the same year, she and Chase announced their split.
D'Amelio has been subject to bullying and body shaming. She and her sister made a video for UNICEF about social media and bullying.
In April 2020, D'Amelio donated $50,000 to her hometown hospital, Norwalk Hospital, to help secure critical supplies for the hospital's staff amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
