Charles Santiago
Charles Anthony s/o R. Santiago is a Malaysian politician from the Democratic Action Party currently serving as three-term Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Klang constituency in the state of Selangor. He is chairperson of ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights.
Santiago was appointed chair of the Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee on 4 December 2019.Political career
Santiago was first elected to Parliament in the 2008 election winning the seat of Klang from the governing National Front coalition. Prior to his election, Santiago was an economist and worked for non-governmental organisations such as the Coalition Against Water Privatisation and Monitoring Sustainability of Globalisation Malaysia. Santiago was re-elected to Parliament for Klang constituency in the consecutive 2013 and 2018 general elections.
Santiago is also chairman of Association of Southeast Asian Nations Parliamentarians for Human Rights. He was appointed chairman of the National Water Services Commission and his appointment is effect from 1 November 2018 until 31 October 2020.Election results
