Charles B. Wessler
Charles B. Wessler is an American film producer best known for his collaborations with the Farrelly brothers.Life and career
Wessler's first job was as a production assistant on the film Can I Do It... 'Til I Need Glasses? He was a production assistant for George Lucas on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Wessler spent time working at The Ladd Company for Alan Ladd Jr. and at Zoetrope Studios with Francis Ford Coppola. He soon moved on to produce specials for HBO where he hired Peter Farrelly and Bennett Yellen to write a script for the 1987 special, Paul Reiser Out on a Whim. Wessler, Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly went on to develop several scripts together. The first feature film they brought to the screen was Dumb and Dumber for New Line Cinema.
Wessler's other producing credits include It's Pat for Touchstone Pictures, Bushwhacked, There's Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal and Stuck on You for 20th Century Fox and The Heartbreak Kid for Paramount Pictures/DreamWorks Pictures. His 2010's era film projects included Hall Pass for New Line Cinema/Warner Bros., Movie 43 for Relativity Media, The Three Stooges for 20th Century Fox, Dumb and Dumber To for Universal Pictures/Red Granite Pictures and Green Book for Universal Pictures/Participant Media, which was released on November 16, 2018.
Nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for producing There's Something About Mary.
In 2018 Wessler produced Green Book, which won the Toronto International Film Festival's People Choice Award, Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, winner of the 2019 Producers Guild Film Awards for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures honoree of American Film Institute Movies Of The Year, and won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
