Catmose House

Catmose House is a municipal facility in Oakham, Rutland. It is a Grade II listed building.

History

The house was built as a county mansion in the late 18th century. The house was substantially rebuilt by the Rt Hon Gerard James Noel, MP for Rutland, who also laid out the gardens. It was acquired by Rutland County Council, who had been occupying facilities at Oakham Castle, for use as their headquarters in 1936. After implementation of the Local Government Act 1972, when Rutland was reconstituted as a district of Leicestershire, it became the local district headquarters. Then, following the re-incarnation of Rutland County Council in April 1997, it became the headquarters of the new unitary authority.
