Castlehaven


Castlehaven is a civil parish in County Cork, Ireland. It is located some 75 km south west of Cork City on the coast and is made up of two key towns: Union Hall and Castletownshend. It also contains the hamlets of Rineen and Tragumna.
The area is famous for Gaelic football with the local Club claiming local and national honours

History

The Irish name Gleann Bearcháin was historically anglicised as Glanbarighan, Glanbaraghan and Glanbarrahan. The Battle of Castlehaven was fought in 1601.

Sport

is a Gaelic football club based in Castlehaven, County Cork, Ireland. It participates in Cork GAA competitions. It has won 5 Cork Senior Football Championships in 1989,1994, 2003, 2012 and 2013. It has also won 3 Munster Senior Club Football Championships in 1989, 1994 and 1997, when they were entered even though they had lost the County Final, due to the ineligibility of divisional side Beara.
