Calgary Cardinals FMBA

The Calgary Cardinals are a men's baseball team that plays in the Foothills Major Baseball Association. The team originated in 1965, and they are the only remaining team from the time the FMBA played their games out of Optimist Park in Calgary, AB. In the early 1980s the FMBA moved to Deerfoot Park in NE Calgary, AB, where the Cardinals still play out of today. The field was renamed to Glen Hansen Field on August 31st 2019, after longtime Cardinal manager, and FMBA Past-President Glen Hansen, which also commemorated his 40th season in the league.
During the early 1990s the team briefly split into two teams: a Senior and Junior with the Senior team consisting of primarily older players. The former briefly left the FMBA to play in the Alberta Senior League, but returned to the league capturing the FMBA league title in 2003, defeating the Calgary Longhorns in the final two games to one. The junior team eventually left the FMBA, forming their own program, now called the Calgary Redbirds.
The Cardinals would have to wait until 2017 to win their next FMBA title, defeating the Calgary Dukes two games to one.
