and
politician
from
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
. During the
American Revolution
, he was a member of the
First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry
, which was commanded by his cousin,
Captain Samuel Morris
. He was a delegate for
Pennsylvania
in the
Continental Congress
in
1783
and 1784.
In
1781
he was a
founder
and also a member of the first
board of directors
of the
Bank of North America
.
After the war
he had an
iron furnace
for several years at
Birdsboro
,
Berks County, Pennsylvania
, after which he returned to mercantile pursuits in
Philadelphia
.
