CKBI (AM)


CKBI is a Canadian radio station in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Owned by the Jim Pattison Group, it broadcasts a country music format branded as AM 900. The station also serves as the broadcast home of the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.
CKBI began broadcasting as 10BI in 1930 on 250 metres. In 1933, 10BI became a commercial station, adopting its current callsign and moved to 1210 AM. CKBI has been operating at its current frequency of 900 kHz since 1941; 900 AM is a Canadian and Mexican clear-channel frequency. CKBI and XEW are the dominant Class A stations on this frequency.
At nighttime, this signal can be heard over South Central Canada and North Central US. It has been picked up as far south and west as Central Washington state. CKBI is non-directional daytime and directional nighttime using a two-tower array.
