Budhana has an average literacy rate of 49%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with a male literacy rate of 57% and a female literacy rate of 40%. 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. The total population of Budhana Tehsil is 430,700; the male population is 229,877 and the female population is 200,823.
Economy
The local economy is primarily based on agriculture. Budhana lies in the Upper Doab region, a fertile area close to the Upper Ganges Canal. The main crops are wheat, sugarcane and mustard. People from the surrounding villages come to Budhana for their buying and selling needs. Bajaj Sugar Mill is just outside the town. It was completed on 31 October 2005 at a cost of Rs 150 crore. It was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
