Bucharest Symphony Orchestra


The Bucharest Symphony Orchestra is a Romanian orchestra based in Bucharest, founded in 2006 by the Philson Young Association. In 2017, Jin Wang was appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra. Previously, Benoît Fromanger occupied the leading musical position.

History

The flexibility of choice in music genres was the cornerstone of the joint-projects which involved outstanding Romanian artists such as the soprano Angela Gheorghiu, the violinist Corina Belcea, Teodor Ilincai, Tina Munteanu, Smiley, Elena Gheorghe, Cristina Rus, Nico, Vlad Miriţă, Ovidiu Lipan "Țăndărică", Aurelian Temisan, Oana Sarbu, Maria Jinga, Iordache Basalic and Transsylvania Phoenix. The latter brought together the band Phoenix for the SYMPhoenix project.
Under the artistic direction of Benoît Fromanger, the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra has a permanent, foreign music director and principal conductor.
Between 2006-2012, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra performed in concert halls such as the Romanian Athenaeum, National Theatre Bucharest, Romanian National Opera and Sala Palatului.

The Bucharest Symphony Orchestra developed a social educational project named Salut CULTURA! to encourage the art of sound and interpretation. The Salut CULTURA! mission is to present cultural events that facilitate the understanding of music through open communication between audience and artists.
Salut CULTURA! focuses on educating and training children in the fascinating spirit of classical music, as well as on encouraging music fans to enjoy live symphony concerts.
Concept concert programs from the project include: Greatest Hits, Sympho Solo, Sympho Kids, Sympho Pops, Symph' Opera, Sympho Modern and Traditional.
