Bruno Freindlich
Bruno Arturovich Freindlich was a Soviet/Russian actor of German ancestry who became People's Artist of the USSR in 1974. His daughter Alisa Freindlich is also a notable actress.Biography
A native of Saint Petersburg, Bruno Freindlich began his career as an actor performing for audiences of children. For two years he worked at the Bolshoi Theatre of Drama. Since 1948, he was a leading actor of the former Alexandrine Theatre. Among his stage works were Khlestakov in The Government Inspector and Hamlet in Grigori Kozintsev's staging of Shakespeare's play. He played the roles of Peer Gynt, père Goriot, Gayev in The Cherry Orchard, Baron in The Lower Depths. One of the dearest roles of Freindlich, which he played for many years, was the part of writer Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev in the play Elegy. For the role of Guglielmo Marconi in the propaganda film Alexander Popov he won the Stalin Prize.Death
Freindlich died in Petersburg at the age of 92 and was buried on 11 July 2002 at the Volkovo Cemetery.Partial filmography
