Brit Award for Song of the Year

The Brit Award for Song of the Year is an award given by the British Phonographic Industry, an organisation which represents record companies and artists in the United Kingdom. The accolade is presented at the Brit Awards, an annual celebration of British and international music. The winners and nominees are determined by the Brit Awards voting academy with over one-thousand members, which comprise record labels, publishers, managers, agents, media, and previous winners and nominees. The award was first presented in 1977 as British Single of the Year. 1983 and 1984 awarded as highest-selling single.

Achievements

holds the record for most wins in this category at five. Robbie Williams has won three times, more than any other solo artist.
Take That was the first artist to win Song of the Year in two consecutive years for the 1993 and 1994 ; and they achieve this feat twice, for the years 2007 and 2008. That record was overtaken by Robbie Williams when he has three wins in a row; for the years 1999 , 2000, and 2001.
Only other artists to receive two Brits for Song of the Year are Queen ; and Adele.
Calvin Harris has the most nominations for Song of the Year for an artist and a male artist with eight nominations, "I Need Your Love", "Summer", "How Deep Is Your Love", "This Is What You Came For", "Feels", "One Kiss", and "Giant" ); he won the award once. Take That has the most nominations for a group with seven noms ; they claim five awards. Adele have the most Song of the Year nominations amongst female artists with four nods ; she's winning two times.
The first women act to win this award was Spice Girls in 1997, for "Wannabe". Dido became the first female solo perfomer to win this accolade in 2004, for "White Flag". Adele is the first female artist to win the award twice, winning for "Skyfall" and "Hello".
Only foreign artist to ever win the award is Bruno Mars. He won as featured artist on Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk".
