He is of French, German, and Spanish descent. He has mentioned having a stepmother and stepfather. He said his last name is pronounced like "swallow". He is an atheist. He was arrested in 2006 for committing grand theft auto and received one year in prison, being released in June 2007. He has admitted to formerly being a drug dealer.
In April 2012, he married singer Porcelain Black. They divorced in 2014.
