The son of Ronald William Stone, and Gertrude Amy Stone, née Berryman, Robert Lewis Stone was born at Somerville, Victoria on 26 May 1925.
He married Jean Alison Bourne in 1949.Football
Cleared to Melbourne from Somerville, Stone's football career was interrupted by his service in the Royal Australian Navy in World War II, enlisting as he turned 18 and serving on several ships until the end of the war.
