Bloomfield College


Bloomfield College is a four-year private liberal arts college located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Bloomfield College is chartered by the State of New Jersey and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The college is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church through the Synod of the Northeast and is a member of the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities. In a suburban residential community from New York City, the College attracts a geographically diverse resident and commuter population. The tree-lined campus is easily reached by train, bus, or by car.

History

Bloomfield College was founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1868 as German Theological Seminary of Newark, New Jersey, to train German-speaking ministers. It moved to Bloomfield in 1872 and became four-year college in 1923.

Bloomfield College has approximately 1,980 students and about 65% of the students are commuters. The college offers primarily undergraduate studies, but it has recently added master's programs in Accounting, Fine Arts, and Education. The college is regionally accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Bloomfield College has a student to faculty ratio of 15:1.

Bloomfield College accepts applications throughout the year on a rolling basis. Applicants for admission to Bloomfield College are considered on the basis of their high school academic record, Scholastic Assessment Test or American College Test scores, recommendations, essay, extracurricular activities, and post secondary school transcripts where applicable. Bloomfield College has a standardized test-optional admission policy, meaning applications can be made without submitting Scholastic Assessment Test or American College Test scores.

Athletics

Bloomfield College teams participate as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II. The Bears are a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, and track and field; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.
