Blanca Santa Cruz Ossa


Blanca Santa Cruz y Ossa was a Chilean writer and editor of children's and young adult literature, with a special focus on intercultural literature, writing and compiling stories related to Chilean and international legends and myths.

Biography

The daughter of Senator and Carmela Ossa y Ossa, she studied at the School of the Sacred Heart in Santiago.
Beginning in the 1930s, children's literature became prominent in Chile, and Blanca Santa Cruz y Ossa reached her most prolific stage of literary production during that decade. In this context, she established herself as one of the leaders of the genre. In 1929 she began creating compilations of myths and legends of Chile and diverse places around the world. She was linked to other authors of the time, such as Ernesto Montenegro with his 1930 work Cuentos de mi Tío Ventura, Damita Duende with Doce cuentos de príncipes y reyes and Doce cuentos de hadas, and Marta Brunet with Cuentos para Marisol.
