Beleghata is an assembly constituency in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 164 Beleghata is composed of the following: Ward Nos. 28, 29, 30, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 57 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Beleghata is part of No. 24 Kolkata Uttar. Prior to the 2009 Indian general election it was part of Calcutta North East.

In the 2001 elections, Manabendra Mukherjee of CPI defeated his nearest rival Ajoy Sanyal of Trinamool Congress.

In the 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991 and 1987 state assembly elections, Manabendra Mukherjee of CPI won the Beliaghata assembly seat defeating his nearest rivals Ashim Chatterjee of Trinamool Congress in 2006, Ajoy Sanyal of Trinamool Congress in 2001, Krishna Debnath of Congress in 1996, Suresh Biswas of Congress in 1991 and Biresh Bose of Congress in 1987. Krishna Pada Ghosh of CPI defeated Ashok Deb of Congress in 1982, and Premananda Bose of Janata Party in 1977.

1962-1972 Beliaghata South

Ardhendu Sekhar Naskar of Congress won in 1972 and 1971. Niranjan Baral of CPI won 1969. Ganesh Prosad.Roy of Congress won in 1967 and 1962.

1962-1972 Beliaghata North

Ananta Kumar Bharati of Congress won in 1972. Krishna Pada Ghosh of CPI won in 1971, 1969, and 1967. Jagat Basu of CPI won in 1962.

1951-1957 Beliaghata

Beliaghata was a joint seat in 1957 and 1951. Rama Shankar Prasad and Jagat bose, both of CPI, won the seat in both the years.
