Bearsted railway station


Bearsted railway station serves Bearsted in Kent, England. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Southeastern. It is down the line from via Herne Hill.
Inside the station building are a manned and self-service ticket sales and a café. A new footbridge was built on the opposite side of the station from the original in 2011.

History

Bearsted station opened on 1 July 1884 as part of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway's extension of the line from Maidstone to. The goods yard was on the up side. It comprised three sidings, one of which served a goods shed. A 30 cwt-capacity crane was provided. Freight facilities were withdrawn on 7 October 1968. The signal box closed on 14 April 1984. A refuge siding was located on the down side.

Services

The typical off-peak service from the station is one train per hour to Canterbury West calling at all stations, one train per hour to Ashford International calling at Ashford only and two trains an hour to London Victoria. The station also has services to and from London Blackfriars in the peak on Mondays to Fridays. In December 2019, the new Thameslink Maidstone East to Cambridge service will start, the first few trains in the morning will start at Ashford International rather than Maidstone East and the last few trains in the evening will continue to Ashford International rather than terminating at Maidstone East.
