Baywest Mall


Baywest Mall is a shopping centre located on the western urban edge of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It is the largest shopping centre in the province of the Eastern Cape and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.

Location

Baywest is located on the western outskirts of Port Elizabeth in the Hunters Retreat area and is about 16 kilometers from the Port Elizabeth city centre. Because of its location on the outskirts, it doesn't have many suburbs around it. However, surrounding suburbs include Kunene Park and Sherwood to the east, Rowallan Park in the north-east and Greenbushes to the north.

Tenants

Baywest Mall has anchor tenants including Checkers Hyper, Dis-Chem, Edgars, Foschini, Game, House & Home, Mr. Price, Pick n Pay, Truworths and Woolworths. These are the largest and notable tenants amongst the over 180 stores that the shopping centre has.
It also includes the only ice rink in the Eastern Cape which is a typical North American ice rink with an area of 1458m² and a SterKenikor cinema.

Access

Baywest Mall is adjacent to the N2 highway to Humansdorp and Port Elizabeth. It is linked to the N2 via the Baywest Boulevard which also connects to the outer west suburb of Rowallan Park.
The Utopia Road connects to the outer west suburbs of Kunene Park, Sherwood, Brentwood Park, Ben Kamma, Kamma Ridge and Glenroy Park.

Baywest City

Baywest City is a state-of-the-art mixed-use retail, business and lifestyle development in the western suburbs of Nelson Mandela Bay. It based on successful mixed-use property developments such as Umhlanga’s Gateway and Cape Town’s Century City.
The 320ha precinct, also known as “The Pulse of the Bay”, is a multi-billion rand development by Abacus Asset Management and Billion Group. Baywest Mall was a gamechanger for the first phase of development, which also saw a R250-million upgrade to the surrounding road infrastructure.
Plans are two make Baywest City a business, retail and lifestyle hub in the western suburbs of Port Elizabeth with the addition of a modern residential development, green-rated office blocks, an international hotel, and a lifestyle centre in the precinct.
Around a quarter of the land will remain undeveloped, allowing for pockets of protected environmental urban parks between the spatial developments.
