Battle of Rahon (1710)

The Battle of Rahon was fought between Sikhs and Mughal Empire on 11 October 1710.

Background and battle

Banda Singh Bahadur captured almost half Punjab East of Lahore. Local chieftains were Ghorewha Rajpoots who fought Banda Singh and remained influential in Rahon henceforth. He became the master of a small region in Eastern Punjab from river Indus to Satluj. In 1710, Bahadur advanced to Jalandhar, where on his way, he was attacked by local ruler, Shams Khan. Bahadur immediately captured his fort when Khan went to Sultanpur. After the victory, the Sikhs advanced to capture Jalandhar.. The Rajputs and Mughals later defeated the fleeing Sikhs at Rahon and recaptured the city and surrounding areas and maintained control over the region for the next few decades with some interruptions until 1947.
