Barun Sobti


Barun Sobti is an Indian actor. He started his acting career in 2009 with Star Plus's Shraddha and later appeared in a negative role in Dill Mill Gayye. He portrayed his first lead role in Sony TV's series Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. In 2011, Sobti played Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?.
Sobti made his film debut with the romantic comedy Main Aur Mr. Riight and later worked on the film Tu Hai Mera Sunday. He starred in the Hotstar Originals web series Tanhaiyan and ALTBalaji's The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family and recent Asur. Sobti also starred in short films Dry Dreams and the Voot originals Derma.

Personal life

Sobti was born in Delhi into a Punjabi family. He attended St. Mark's School in Paschim Vihar, New Delhi and completed his graduation from University of Delhi. He worked as an operations manager at Jindal Telecom for 7 years before entering the entertainment industry. He met his wife Pashmeen Manchanda the first time in his school and they were classmates. After a long-distance relationship, he married his childhood sweetheart in a private ceremony on 12 December 2010 in a Gurudwara. In 2019, the couple had a daughter.

Career

Sobti made his acting debut as a lead in 2009 as Swayam Khurana in Star Plus's Shraddha. He later did negative cameo role in the famous medical show Dill Mill Gayye as Dr. Raj, a medical intern with drug addiction.
In 2010, Sobti starred in Sony TV's Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. He rose to prominence with his portrayal as the carefree, rich spoilt brat Shravan Jaiswal.
In 2011, Barun Sobti starred in Star Plus's Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? as Arnav Singh Raizada His portrayal as an arrogant business tycoon earned him recognition in India and worldwide. The series has been dubbed into different languages and has aired in over 50 countries since 2012. In 2017, the channel bought a third season of the series with Sobti playing Advay Singh Raizada, an anti hero.
Sobti made his Bollywood debut in 2014 with the film Main Aur Mr. Riight, a romantic comedy opposite Shenaz Treasury.
His second movie was the slice of life Tu Hai Mera Sunday, directed by Milind Dhaimade, premiered at the British Film Institute London Film Festival, then in India at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The movie had its theatrical release in October 2017.
In 2015, he also starred in Dry Dreams, a short film about water conservation. The short film was Sobti's debut into the digital platform, after which he starred in Hotstar's romantic webseries Tanhaiyan which was well received. He later on starred in ALTBalaji's The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family.
In 2018, Sobti's third film 22 Yards premiered at the inaugural Bay Area South Asian Film Festival in California. He won the Best Actor Award for his performance in the film, which released in India on 15 March 2019.
Sobti recently played Nikhil Nair in the Voot original series Asur.

Media

Sobti was voted as the 3rd Sexiest Asian Man by UK magazine Eastern Eye following Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor.
He was also ranked 2nd in the Gazette Review list of Most Handsome Men in the World in 2017-2018 as runner up to Chris Evans.
