Baluarte de Santiago


The Baluarte de Santiago, also known as the bastion of gunpowder, is located on Street Francisco Canal S/N, between Avenues Gómez Farías and 16 septiembre, in the port city of Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico.
It is a military building that was completed in 1635. Started construction of an integral wall surrounding, which consisted of seven bastions and formed the walled defense system of the city, being located at the southern end face Gulf Coast, whose purpose was to help safeguard the city and avoid the constant attacks that the Port of Veracruz was suffering.
It is the only surviving bastion of nine that guard the port of pirate and corsairs attacks. Defensive military construction restricted, thick and high walls.

Today

Currently the Baluarte de Santiago is a museum where it found las Joyas del Pescador.
