In Kenya, it is currently offered by kabarak university, egerton university, Mount Kenya University. In Uganda and Tanzania, it is offered at Kampala International University.
In Rwanda, it is offered at the University of Rwanda.,
Most clinical officers first acquire a basic Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery before enrolling for the degree, although this is not a requirement. High School graduates are also enrolled directly into the programme which lasts at least four years.
Graduates must then complete an internship year before they are registered as qualified clinical officers. However, in Tanzania, the state confirmed that the degree is an equivalent to an MD degree hence the graduates are referred to as doctors.
