Azatan


Azatan, is a major village and rural community in the Shirak Province of Armenia. The National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia reported its population was 5,697 in 2010, up from 4,838 at the 2011 census.
The name derives from the Armenian word Azatan - meaning "freedmen". Azatan was also a Sassanid military administrative position given to Swaran Unit.
