Avatici

The Avatici were a Gallic tribe who inhabited south-eastern Gaul during the Roman period. According to Pliny, they lived around the town of Maritima — the location of which is no longer known, but was presumably on the coast — in the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis.

Name

They are named Au̓atilō͂n by Ptolemy, and an oppidum Maritima Avaticorum is mentioned by Pliny and Pomponius Mela.
