Augusto Tasso Fragoso


General Augusto Tasso Fragoso, better known as Tasso Fragoso was a Brazilian soldier and author. He led a coup d'état that deposed Washington Luís on 24 October 1930 and prevented president-elect Julio Prestes from assuming the presidency of the Republic of Brazil. He was chief of the Provisional Governing Council which handed the presidency to Getúlio Vargas on 3 November 1930. He was also the cousin of Portuguese President António Óscar Fragoso Carmona.
