Ashiq Ilahi Bulandshahri


Muḥammad ‘Āshiq Ilāhī Bulandshahrī Muhājir Madanī was a prominent Indian Islamic scholar. He was a disciple of Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi.

Birth

Muhammad Ashiq Ilahi was born in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, India in 1343 AH.

Education

Ashiq Ilahi completed his primary studies at Madrasah Imdadiyyah Muradabad and Jami' Masjid Aligarh. He then enrolled at Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur for higher education.

Teaching Career

After completing his studies, he taught in the town of Ferozepur Jhirka, the madrasah Hayatul Ulum in Moradabad, and different madrasahs in Calcutta. Later, at the request of Mufti Muhammad Shafi, he went to Darul Uloom Karachi, where he taught hadith and tafsir for several years. He also assumed responsibility of the school's fatwa department, where he worked as a Mufti from 1384 AH to 1397 AH.

Literary Works

His works have been well received in numerous countries.
Maulana Ashiq Ilahi later moved to Medina, where he passed the final twenty-five years of his life. He died in 2001 and was buried in al-Baqi'.
