As-Salam as-Sultani

"as-Salâm as-Solṭâni" is Oman's national anthem; it is an ode originally dedicated to Qâbus ben-Saʿyed, the former Sultan of Oman.

History

"as-Salâm as-Solṭâni" was written by the poet Ħafiẓ ben-Sâlem as-Sayl al-Gasâni, the adviser of the former Sultan of Oman, Qâbus ben-Saʿyed. The melody of words was composed by the Egyptian musician Moħammed ʿAbdolwahâb. The music for it was composed at the request of Muscat's government by James Frederick Mills, a Briton, in December 1932.

Sultan Hayþam ben-Ṭâreq issued a decree to remove the name of His Predecessor Qâbus from the national anthem.
يا عمان نحن من عهد النبي
أوفياء من كرام العربي
ابشري قابوس جاء
فلتباركه السماء
واسعدي والتقيه بالدعاء
Yâ ʿOmân, naħno men ʿahd en-Nabi
ʾAwfiyâʾ men kerâme l-ʿArabi.
Abšeri Qâbus jâʾ
Faltobârakho s-samâʾ
Wa-s-saʿdi wa-t-taqih be-d-doʿâʾ.
/jaː ʕu.maːn naħ.nu min ʕahd in.na.biː/
/ʔaw.fiː.jaʔ min ki.raː.mil ʕa.ra.biː/
/ab.ʃi.riː qaː.buːs dʒaːʔ/
/fal.tu.baː.rak.hus sa.maːʔ/
/was.saʕ.diː wat.ta.qiːh bid.du.ʕaːʔ/
O Oman, since the time of the Prophet
We are a dedicated people amongst the noblest Arabs
Be happy! Qaboos has come
May heaven bless him
Be cheerful and commend him to the protection of our prayers.
